First, download XAMPP (linux version) for Ubuntu.
Download link: Click Here
Keep in mind when you download it, remember the location where you save the downloaded file. Now, suppose you download and save the file in desktop.
Open terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and go to desktop.
cd Desktop
Extract the downloaded archive file to /opt:
$ sudo tar xvfz xampp-linux-1.7.3a.tar.gz -C /opt
To start XAMPP, just type in terminal
$ sudo /opt/lampp/lampp start
You will see something like below in your screen
Starting XAMPP 1.7.3a…
LAMPP: Starting Apache…
LAMPP: Starting MySQL…
LAMPP started.
To stop it just type
$ /opt/lampp/lampp stop
Thanks for your information..
I need a help..
I am using Ubuntu 10.04. I have installed xampp. Now I want the steps to execute a php file in my local host.
My browser doesn’t support php. So I tried to save my php file in “/opt/lampp/htdocs/xampp”, after that I saw a message that “You do not have the permissions necessary to save the file.” Can you help me to get permission to read and write files in xampp ?
Oh.. To access or copy anything there, you will have to fix the file access permission..This tutorial may help you..Link: https://eftakhairul.wordpress.com/2010/08/05/sudo-gksudo-and-file-access-permission/
or you can directly copy file to there. Example, u have a file named index.php in desktop. You want to copy it to /opt/lampp/htdocs/xampp.. Just type in terminal
$ sudo cp -r /home/……/Desktop/index.php /opt/lampp/htdocs/xampp
Thanks, very helpful 😀
This articles, really helped me to install the xampp on my ubuntu 11.04. It’s cool but why don’t they enable to software center?
Thanks bhaiya for your comments. LAMP stack is already there, may be that’s why they didn’t include it.
